Aileen Orr,
our candidate in the 2005 Westminster and 2007 Scottish Parliament
Elections (Roxburgh & Berwickshire), says:
I come from a very rural background, of typical
Borders ancestry, people who fought cross border for many centuries.
We like to celebrate and commemorate our sacrifices through our Common
Ridings, and we remember past misdemeanours for only a few centuries!
But one day it clicked, Independence wasn't about expelling our
neighbours, it was about embracing them. In my travels, I've met many
other people struggling for Independence; it appears to be a flame not
easily extinguished.
I visited Albania just after it had opened its
Borders, although suppressed for so long, the people had retained
their spirit. Estonia too, working hard to regain their own status,
and succeeding. In Scotland it should not be a fight, a struggle, or a
sacrifice to stand up for our own Nation, it should be a pleasure to
say, "I want an Independent Scotland, is there a problem?"
